Wow. That thing is definitely carrying around a bunch of Enclave intel. Adams is on the eastern seaboard of the country. Which means this little "Duraframe" sucker somehow managed to survive for over two thousand miles. Certainly lives up to its model name.

ED-E My Love is a companion side quest in Fallout: New Vegas.

Synopsis[]

ED-E has some strange recordings in his data that are triggered by seemingly random words.

Walkthrough[]

  1. Find and examine ED-E in the Nash residence in Primm.
  2. Talk to Johnson Nash and mention the robot sitting in his store.
  3. Repair ED-E and take ED-E with you as a companion.
  4. Trigger ED-E's first audio log via dialogue about technology or the Enclave:
    1. Repeatedly talk to an NCR trooper standing outside of HELIOS One. You can also gain entrance to HELIOS One and talk to several troopers inside to trigger the first log.
    2. Talk to Doctor Henry at Jacobstown about his experience with the Enclave.
    3. Talk to Colonel Cassandra Moore for the first assignment in the quest, For the Republic, Part 2.
    4. Talk to Ignacio Rivas at HELIOS One about Archimedes and The Brotherhood of Steel.
    5. Talk to Torres, the quartermaster of the Brotherhood of Steel armory in Hidden Valley.
    6. Talk to Doctor Thomas Hildern, director of the OSI at Camp McCarran.
    7. Talk to Michael Angelo at Michael Angelo's workshop on the New Vegas Strip.
    8. Talk to Mr. House about the Brotherhood of Steel.
    9. Talk to Apprentice Watkins about HELIOS One.
    10. Talk to Quartermaster Mayes about supplies during the quest, Restoring Hope.
    11. Talk to Old Lady Gibson at Gibson scrap yard. (If you have already gone through her conversation options before starting this quest, talking to her will no longer trigger this message.)
  5. Allow five in-game days to pass.
  6. Trigger a second audio log via dialogue about technology or the Enclave.
    1. Talk to Old Lady Gibson at Gibson scrap yard. (If you have already gone through her conversation options before starting this quest, talking to her will no longer trigger this message.)
    2. Talk to Ignacio Rivas in the northwest corner of HELIOS One near Fantastic and ask him about ARCHIMEDES.
    3. Listen to the Brotherhood Scribe (found in a classroom inside the Brotherhood bunker in Hidden Valley) teach his class.
    4. Talk to a Brotherhood Paladin around Hidden Valley. They may mention not having seen this type of eyebot before.
    5. Talk to Colonel Moore for the Brotherhood assignment in the quest For the Republic, Part 2.
    6. When trying to gain the Brotherhood of Steel's trust (without the help of Veronica), a keyword is spoken after killing or convincing the NCR ranger to leave Hidden Valley.
    7. Complete Still in the Dark, leave the Hidden Valley bunker, and return again after waiting a few days. A Brotherhood Scribe will thank you and tell you of a footlocker stashed with recharged energy ammunition. If you try to talk to this Scribe again, ED-E will immediately play the message.
    8. Speak with Veronica Santangelo while on the quest I Could Make You Care, and after accessing Father Elijah's terminal.
    9. When you first talk to Michael Angelo on his workshop at the New Vegas Strip, talk about his "lack of inspiration" and choose the medical answer. It will still work even if the requirements are not fulfilled.
    10. Talk to Quartermaster Mayes at Camp Forlorn Hope about locating supplies sent from Helios One for the Restoring Hope quest.
    11. Talk to Doctor Henry at Jacobstown about his previous employment with the Enclave.
    12. Talk to Apprentice Watkins both about her parents and her decision and ask her about all the computers.
    13. Talk to Dr. Hildern at Camp McCarran about the quest There Stands the Grass.
  7. Allow two in-game days to pass.
  8. Get contacted by the Brotherood of Steel and the Followers of the Apocalypse.
  9. Give ED-E to the Brotherhood or Followers at the Hidden Valley bunker or the Old Mormon Fort. They will either upgrade his armor or weapons, respectively.
  10. After three in-game days, the upgraded ED-E will return to Primm.
  11. Talk to ED-E.

Quest stages[]

StageStatusDescription
1 (Optional) Bring ED-E to the Gibson Scrapyard in Novac.
5 ED-E appears to have some Enclave log data stored that is triggered by some keywords.
7 The Followers of the Apocalypse would like to see ED-E to get access to the logs he has stored.
10 Find the patrol Knight Lorenzo told you about to let the Brotherhood of Steel examine ED-E.
12 The patrol Lorenzo mentioned is dead, perhaps there is something on one of the corpses that may be useful.
13 There was a password on one of the Brotherhood corpses. Perhaps that could be used to bring ED-E to Lorenzo.
15 Speak to Knight Lorenzo in Hidden Valley about ED-E.
20 Lorenzo would like to examine the data on ED-E. He offered to upgrade ED-E's armor while he was working on it.
25 Lorenzo is examining ED-E and updating its armor. It should be ready in a few days.
30 April Martimer with the Followers would like access to ED-E's data. She promises to upgrade its weapons while she works on it.
35 April has ED-E and will be working with it for a few days to access the data and upgrade its weapons.
60Quest finishedED-E's upgrades are complete.

Notes[]

  • If you have previously entered the Hidden Valley bunker (with Veronica, for example) you will not need to recover the entrance password from the Brotherhood squad in the REPCONN building.
  • If you have killed everyone in the Hidden Valley bunker, April Martimer will automatically contact you after two days.
  • The numbers of in-game days listed above do not always work as it is implied they should when using the "wait" feature. However, not receiving a message after waiting does not mean the quest has glitched or failed.
  • As of patch 1.3, ED-E's inventory will not be cleared after he is returned to you.

Behind the scenes[]

  • The name of the quest is a reference to the 1956 song "Eddie My Love" by The Teen Queens, which reached #14 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in March of that year.

Bugs[]

  • PCIcon pc PlayStation 3Icon ps3 Xbox 360Icon xbox360 If the player talks to Old Lady Gibson and goes through all the dialog before recruiting ED-E, she will no longer trigger the log. Go speak with Ignacio Rivas or any NCR trooper inside HELIOS One instead. This can be resolved on the PC version by using the resetquest 001572e8 setstage 001572E8 10 commands in the console to reset.
  • PCIcon pc PlayStation 3Icon ps3 Xbox 360Icon xbox360 After completing the quest, ED-E may suddenly stop following you and be unable to attack, but will still be responsive to dialogue and can still be used as a storage container. It usually happens once you enter combat and he may begin following again once you fast travel or go through a door. This bug may still persist later on, however.
  • PCIcon pc PlayStation 3Icon ps3 Sometimes, when ED-E is given to the Followers, his laser appears to stop working, and trying to change his weapons on the companion wheel shows no name.
  • PCIcon pc Sometimes, talking with the right people won't trigger the first message, and neither will the console commands. In this case, try waiting several days before trying to activate the first message. There has been success receiving the first message after a 10-day wait.
  • PlayStation 3Icon ps3 Sometimes, if you upgrade ED-E's laser in one save, ED-E may spawn with his upgraded laser in a new save. This enables ED-E to upgrade its armor while having a laser upgrade.
  • Xbox 360Icon xbox360 After getting the upgrade from the Brotherhood of Steel, ED-E will sometimes become immobile. Reloading to a previous save works, but only for a short amount of time. No known fix.
  • Xbox 360Icon xbox360 If you get the upgrade from Followers of the Apocalypse, ED-E will randomly go and disappear, even though you can't see ED-E, he is still there to interact and fight, this can be fixed by reloading the save.
  • Xbox 360Icon xbox360 Sometimes ED-E will not respond to a second quest trigger, though his weapon system will be upgraded. This results with an ED-E covered with bumper stickers firing blue projectiles and the quest being unable to be completed.
