Don't think you'll scare anyone here. You could shoot down everyone in town, and I wouldn't flinch. You live in Bigtown; you learn to accept death.
”— Dusty, Fallout 3Dusty is the watchman in Big Town in Fallout 3., who can, for the most part, be found sitting on the chair overlooking the bridge - the only way into Big Town.
Background[]
He, like all the other Big Towners, originates from Little Lamplight. He is not overly eager to have the position of sentry and usually just dozes off in his chair. This is probably the reason the super mutants can simply come into town, take their food and leave.[1]

Quests[]
- Big Trouble in Big Town: When first entering Big Town he will ask the Lone Wanderer who you are and you'll have to talk your way out. He then pessimistically tells the Lone Wanderer about the constant attacks by super mutants and slavers.

Notes[]
- As Big Town's sentry, Dusty levels with the Lone Wanderer and is by far the toughest citizen of Big Town. However, his combat performance is still mediocre, and he is simply not equipped to deal with most threats that might attack the settlement.
- Dusty may have come from Rivet City because nobody talks about knowing him or playing with him at Little Lamplight though he may just be the last one from his age group so he's older than the rest. This idea is lent verisimilitude by the fact he also owns a Rivet city security helmet, but it is possible that it was used as it was the only helmet of its kind, with the exception of the Vault 101 security helmet.
Appearances[]
Dusty appears only in Fallout 3.

Pappy has given Dusty the responsibility of guarding the only entrance into Big Town—the rope bridge at the settlement's north end. He isn't very eager and usually sits dozing on his chair, perhaps one of the reasons why the Super Mutants seem to just walk in, take their "food," and leave. Dusty is jittery and desperate, and lacks the know-how to properly prepare the town's defenses for another attack."
