Crashed Vertibird is a location in Fallout: New Vegas, found east of the old nuclear test site and south of the Matthews animal husbandry farm.

Deep in the southern reaches of the Mojave, buried at the northern edge of the Castle Mountains, is an old Enclave VB-02 Vertibird. The Navarro aircraft, bearing the serial number VEM-105 2193), lost control and crashed here, leaving behind a trench and two dead bodies, long since stripped of flesh or clothes by the carrion eaters. Hardened robots carried by the Vertibird continue to patrol the area on automated routes, waiting for orders that will never come. Anyone who survives the gauntlet of sentry bots and/or Mister Gutsies can walk away with the unique Tesla-Beaton prototype.[1]

The location is one of several that advance Arcade Gannon's trust counter for the purposes of For Auld Lang Syne. Furthermore, the robots that spawn at the location are excellent for farming kills needed for the Gun Runners Arsenal challenge Man-Machine Interface.

Notable loot

Behind the scenes

  • The location and aggressive robots are a throwback to Fallout 2 and the crashed Vertibird found in Klamath Canyon.
  • A deceased non-player character named "Vertibird Pilot" is included in the resources for Fallout: New Vegas, but not used. Presumably this non-player character was meant to be placed at the crash site at some point during development. Among the dead pilot's inventory is a Red Sector Key Card, a further reference to the Klamath Canyon site, more specifically to the Yellow Reactor Keycard found on one of the deceased pilots.

  • It's possible that the game will not spawn the hardened robots on first visits. They can reappear when reloading a save made in the location or on subsequent visits.

Crashed Vertibird appears only in Fallout: New Vegas.

A deep scar that's hidden by the remoteness of the region reveals the remains of a Vertibird bearing strange insignia. The remnant of a past war, this craft is nevertheless well-guarded by Hardened Robots. The fracas is worth it; you find a powerful prototype cannon!"
