The Hēi Guǐ (Chinese:黑鬼), or Chinese stealth armor, is a piece of armor in the Fallout 3 add-on Operation: Anchorage.

Background[]

The following section is transcluded from Chinese stealth armor. To modify, please edit the source page.

This dark blue, form-fitting body suit with an opaque face plate is a suit of armor designed for one thing: Making the operator nigh-invisible. Harnessing Chinese expertise in stealth technology, the suit contains a man-portable device that generates a modulating field that transmits the reflected light from one side of an object to another. The end result is near-perfect active camouflage. The body suit is designed to maximize the effect by simplifying the wearer's silhouette and creating flat surfaces where possible to reduce the complexity of the area being camouflaged.[1][2] Deployed under the designation Hei Gui, the suit allowed China to counter American brute force with subterfuge and deception, although some units were captured and reverse engineered by the Americans.[3]

The suit was just barely out of prototype stage around the time of the Sino-American War and, as such, the refinement of the technology varied. Some Chinese infiltrators on American soil, such as those captured during the Hoover Sabotage, used early generation suits, while the Crimson Dragoon troopers deployed in Alaska used cutting edge iterations granting long lasting invisibility.[4]

Characteristics[]

It has a damage resistance comparable to recon armor, but also increases Sneak by 15 and the stealth field stat by 5 when crouching.

Location[]

It can only be obtained after the Anchorage Reclamation simulation. It is in the armory which you can open after completing the simulation.

Notes[]

  • The stealth fields activates when sneak mode is activated, regardless of who wears it. As such, the stealth field bonus is only visible when it is active.
  • The clear, see-through texture produced by stealth armor is slightly different than that of a Stealth Boy's, and can be compared by hot-keying a Stealth Boy, and activating it while sneaking.
  • With the silent running perk, unless you attack or "bump" into someone, you are completely undetectable.

Behind the scenes[]

  • In Chinese (Mandarin), Hei Gui (黑鬼) literally means "Black Ghost". Hei (黑) means black, and Gui (鬼) means ghost, apparition, monster, demon, etc.

Bugs[]

  • PCIcon pc PlayStation 3Icon ps3 Xbox 360Icon xbox360 With the stealth suit on, you can equip as many pieces of headgear that you want and raise many stats substantially. If you do this, and then equip another suit of armor (ex. power armor) you will still be wearing all the headgear. See Operation: Anchorage bugs for more details.
  • PCIcon pc PlayStation 3Icon ps3 Xbox 360Icon xbox360 When a companion has the armor equipped and is crouching (activating the stealth field) you can trade items with him/her and swap the armor with another clothing article and when you exit dialogue the stealth field will remain whenever the companion is crouched. This is useful if you want to sneak through areas with a high concentration of enemies, (such as Evergreen Mills) without the possibility of the death of the companion.
  • PCIcon pc PlayStation 3Icon ps3 Xbox 360Icon xbox360 Certain one-handed weapons like the Chinese pistol will cause the suit's textures to clip onscreen while reloading in the first-person view.
  • PCIcon pc While performing the perk "Mister Sandman" with the stealth suit the lower part of the player would be floating and out of control.
  • PlayStation 3Icon ps3 When holding the armor, it will spin and making full circles until it is dropped.
  • Xbox 360Icon xbox360 If you stare at the ground and swing a knife while crouching if first person, a part of the suit will clip into your screen.

"Could you repeat for the general what you just told me?"
    > Posit. Chinese stealth technology far outstrips our own capabilities. Posit. The Chinese intelligence apparatus is sufficient to conceal large scale research operations from American operatives. Conclusion. The Chinese have a 91% chance of having conducted large scale experimentation with Stealth Tech.
"Large scale? What do you mean? What are their capabilities?"
    > American projects involving this technology (refer to "Stealth Boy") have merely reverse engineered captured Hei Gui suits. The underlying science of this technology is unknown. So the theoretical limits are also unknown. However the so-called "Ghost Fleet" that station A-31 and B-19 reported in November may indicate that testing has already commenced with submersible vessels.
"Dear God. You think they have stealth subs?"
    > A second order approximation is inconclusive. Explanation. The logic chain of these assumptions have too much variability. Further data is required.
"So you can't even give me a guess?"
    > Machine/human interface aborted.
"Sorry, sir. We're working on some of her glitches. P.A.M... well, she gets real stubborn when she's doing too much guesswork."
    "Stubborn? She's a machine."
"Sir. With each new version, well, she's getting quirky."
"There's no way I'm taking this stealth sub nonsense to the Joint Chiefs unless I have proof. It's goddamned ludicrous to think the Chinese have been working on something this big and we've heard nothing."
    > Virtually no actionable intelligence has come out of the Shaanxi Province for 3.1 years. However, the province reports a spike in the imports of complex polymers and other key synthetic compounds. The quantity in question is consistent with stealth technology research on the macro scale.
"Until you can give me something concrete, I don't want to hear another goddamned word about this."

This armor appears to be a more recent prototype of the same HG stealth armor captured from enemy infiltrators at the Hoover Sabotage. Presence of Dragoon units suggest that General Jingwei may already have relocated to Anchorage. Stand by for confirmation of report." Cut contentIcon cut
