A carton of cigarettes is a miscellaneous item in Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas.
Characteristics[]
A box containing several packs of Big Boss brand cigarettes. Cartons are abundant in both the Capital and Mojave wastelands, and can be found in many locations or purchased from merchants. Like other cigarettes, they can be traded but cannot be smoked by the player. Cartons have additional uses in both games:
Fallout 3[]
- Like all miscellaneous items, they can be used as Rock-It Launcher ammunition.
- Jericho will smoke any cigarettes placed in his inventory.
Fallout: New Vegas[]
- With the Dead Money add-on installed, cigarette cartons may be exchanged for Sierra Madre chips at a vending machine, either in the Sierra Madre itself or at the abandoned Brotherhood of Steel bunker in the Mojave.
Locations[]
- Cartons of cigarettes are most commonly found in regular desks in buildings around the wasteland.
- Any house within a settlement also has a good chance to have cartons of cigarettes in them. However, it is likely they will have to be stolen.
Behind the scenes[]
- The cigarette's brand name "Big Boss" may be an allusion to the popular stealth/action series Metal Gear and Metal Gear Solid. One of the primary characters in both series is code-named Big Boss. Cigarettes are a recurring inventory item in almost every Metal Gear game. In addition, in Metal Gear Solid 4, the brand of cigarettes used during the game is Big Boss brand, the same as in Fallout 3.
