It was on the front line for a while. Only resort in New Vegas no one wanted to get sent to. Doesn't have that kind of importance anymore, though. They pulled most of the troops out of there after we took the Hoover Dam.

Craig Boone

Camp Golf is a major location in Fallout: New Vegas and one of the NCR Army's largest military bases in the Mojave, located on the shores of Lake Las Vegas.

Background[]

Before the war, the area around the House Resort was a luxurious country club owned by Robert House. Abandoned in the wake of the Great War, the resort stood empty for nearly two centuries before it was claimed by the New California Republic Army as its frontline base. In 2277, it was one of the main battlegrounds with the Caesar's Legion during the First Battle of Hoover Dam.[1]

Following the New California Republic's victory at the Dam, Camp Golf found itself deeper in NCR territory. No longer on the frontlines, the camp lost much of its importance and the Republic pulled most of its troops to other postings.[1] Camp Golf became a posting for under-performing soldiers, where their NCOs try to put them into shape. The most infamous is the Misfits platoon, giving Sgt. McCredie a near-perpetual headache. It doesn't help that the soldiers usually end up emptying bottles of alcohol into their bellies, rather than magazines of bullets at training targets.[2]

However, the base has another facet. The former House Resort building was claimed by the NCR Rangers as the central hub of their deployment in the Mojave. All Ranger stations are coordinated by Chief Hanlon from the terrace overlooking Lake Las Vegas, with the luxurious interior providing Rangers with a place to rest, recoup, and rearm between deployments. The troopers, assigned to cramped canvas tents on old golf fields outside, dislike this kind of stratification.

Layout[]

The Camp occupies the ground and the building of the former House Resort & Country Club, accessible down a road branching off to the east from the interstate, on the northern side of Lake Las Vegas. The access road is monitored by two elevated watchtowers and bordered by what remains of the fence and rows of sandbags. Five more watchtowers manned by NCR troopers monitor the surrounding area in all directions, with emphasis on the northern approaches, along the edge of Lake Mead.

The former golf course on the southern side has been turned into the Army's barracks, with the shooting range at the edge, by the access road. Two rows of five tents have been set up alongside the main "alley", provided for enlisted personnel such as the Misfits, with the command tent and satellite uplinks located at the northern end of the alley. The mess hall is to the west, by the shooting range, while the medical tent lies to the east of the command tent.

The House Resort lies on an elevated artificial platform and is used by the Rangers and officers as quarters and administrative center. Perhaps the most notable element of Camp Golf, however, is the giant pipeline that circles the Resort building and exits southwest towards Las Vegas, drawing water into the water network from the earthen dam at Lake New Vegas.
