Brenden is a member of the Brotherhood of Steel, stationed in Lost Hills in 2161.
Background[]
Stern and young,[1] Brenden focuses his work on a treatise describing the social dynamics of the Brotherhood of Steel.[2] According to his extensive research, the Brotherhood comes closest to resembling the Knights Templar of the so-called Dark Ages.[3]
He describes the Brotherhood as very similar to a pseudo-religious military order. The primary elements are the strict military hierarchy and codes of honor passed down the generations. In his opinion, the Brotherhood can either become a benevolent research society or a techno-religious dictatorship.[4] The key to defining the future is the Elder Council and the High Elder, with the latter capable of guiding the entire Brotherhood single handedly with enough charisma. He expresses hope that the leaders will remain as visionary and strong as General John Maxson.[5]

Brenden: "{124}{}{Ultimately we have a command heirarchy, with the Elders at the top. The most influential positions, then, are the Elders and the High Elder. A charismatic High Elder could direct the Brotherhood almost completely. We need to be careful to make sure that we have a leader who is both strong and visionary. Thankfully, I think that General Maxson fits that description.}"

Brenden: "{125}{}{According to my research, the Knights Templar were a military brotherhood which focused upon the acquisition of wealth and knowledge. Although they had some religious overtones in their structure, their quest for knowledge ultimately made them a secular organization. I think that they would have been a more theocratic organization if they had a greater interest in wealth and power, since the church of that era was primarily involved in control of gold and land.}"
