Boston Airport (officially Boston International Airport)[1] is a location and possible settlement in the Commonwealth.

Once the pride of Boston, the airport has fallen into disrepair. Feral ghouls, scavengers, and the simple passage of time have taken a toll on the once grand terminals. Derelict husks of airplanes litter its grounds and nothing but the desolate wind comes to visit. That is, until the Brotherhood of Steel learned of its location and arrived in force.[2] While the Prydwen remains moored at the control tower, the airport has been repurposed as a logistics center. Everything the Brotherhood needs to operate passes through here: supplies from the Prydwen, salvage from the field, everything. Access is strictly limited and every inventoried element is tracked down to the every singly bullet and bolt.[3]

The Boston Airport serves as a forward operating base for all operations in the Commonwealth. Supplies are stored here, as well as the remains of Liberty Prime, who the Brotherhood plans to rebuild and use against the Institute. The Brotherhood's best soldiers are stationed as the last line of defense for both Prime and the Airport itself, with even Star Paladins encountered patrolling the walkway surrounding Prime. Behind Prime's building platform is the storage depot, where Knight-Sergeant Gavil stores all incoming rations appropriately, as well as supplying gear to field soldiers. Above that is a landing platform, where a general recreational area lies around it. Benches, vending machines, and several food items lay about to allow the Brotherhood to relax with each other before heading out.

Settlement information

This settlement is only accessible after completing Shadow of Steel. The terminal is largely bereft of bare ground that can support agriculture or water wells, meaning that supply lines may be required to provide for the settlement. However, one cannot craft a recruiting beacon for this settlement, making it more suitable as a home base than an actual settlement.

There is an abundance of steel from the seating arrangements within, but very little wood, meaning that, once again, supply lines must be used in order to build structures. The area is is prone to being raided, but the nearby Brotherhood sentries can usually make fast work of any attackers.

The airport is in ruins. The southern, exposed part of the terminal contains a settlement workshop. The northern, more intact part of the terminal is filled with feral ghouls, which are exterminated when the Prydwen arrives and with it, the Brotherhood of Steel. The entrance is repurposed for a construction gantry, while the interior is used as a logistics base. A landing pad is established in the derelict departures terminal, with a Vertibird connecting the flight to the Prydwen.

Airport ruins

The ruins beneath the airport are fairly straightforward with their layout and take the player on a trip around the derelict facility, starting with luggage retrieval and passenger walkways (Knight Rylan's body is in a maintenance corridor off the walkways), through the subterranean parking lot and the derelict subway stop beneath the terminal, to Initiate Clarke finally.

Boston Airport appears only in Fallout 4.

  1. Alana Secord: "Oh, yes. Uhh... Watchers have not shown any additional threats at this time. We're still monitoring increased activity around Fort Independence, though there's no immediate cause for concern. Boston International Airport remains occupied, and Brotherhood presence has been noted at several other locations. And, uhh... Despite a lack of concrete evidence, we have reason to believe that the "Railroad" continues to operate within the Commonwealth. Personally I suspect they're becoming more ambitious, but I can't confirm that at this time. For now, we have assets monitoring all known situations."

  2. Fallout 4 Vault Dweller's Survival Guide Collector's Edition p.342-344: "[4.27] BOSTON AIRPORT
Before the war, Boston International Airport was a major transportation hub on the East Coast. In addition to its distinctive control tower, it also had a large terminal, parking garage, runways, and numerous hangars and support buildings.
The airport suffered heavily from the war. Most of its major buildings, including large sections of the terminal, have long since collapsed, and the rising sea levels have swamped the low-lying runways and outbuildings. Only the control tower and a few hangars remain relatively intact. After mooring the Prydwen at the airport in Act II, the Brotherhood occupy the area and turn it into the base of operations for their war machine in Act III.
    [01] Arrivals Terminal
The workshop here allows you to build a settlement in relative safety, unless you decide not to ally yourself with the Brotherhood of Steel. Behind the two inaccessible security doors is an airport warehouse—a secret construction shop where a war machine is being built. This eventually is moved to Location 05. Attempt to access this airport warehouse from Location 06, and the wall terminal is inaccessible (only Proctor Ingram can access it). Don’t forget to check the ruined “open air” upper floor above the workshop for a Mini Nuke."

  3. Gavil: "Let me guess. Captain Kells sent you?"
The Sole Survivor: "That's right. You're in charge here?"
Gavil: "I am. And you're here about the missing supplies. Let's take this somewhere more private. Follow me."
Gavil: "We've converted this section of the terminal into our primary supply depot. Everything the Brotherhood needs to operate passes through here. Supplies from the Prydwen. Salvage from the field. We handle it all. Access is strictly limited to the Logistics detail. And we track every crate, every bullet, every bolt that comes through that door."
Gavil: "Which is why I don't take kindly to these accusations. I know every soldier in this unit. The thought that anyone would question their loyalty makes me sick. If you've got questions, ask. Otherwise, try to stay out of our way. Sir."
    (Gavil's dialogue)
