The temperature does not… agree with me. My breathing is… sometimes difficult. In times of stress or other physical activity, I tire quickly. Sometimes, I have chest pains.

Big Jesus Mordino is the head of the Mordino family of New Reno in Fallout 2.

Background[]

A fat man with beady black eyes, perpetually covered in sweat and breathing heavily,[1] Big Jesus does not resemble the slave who overthrew his master alongside his son and established one of the most powerful and influential of Reno crime families. His vicious past has left him a bitter, ruthless wreck. These qualities helped him succeed in the highly competitive environment of New Reno.

Success didn't come instantly. At first, Mordinos were just one of many upstarts, farming peyote cacti and other low grade drugs, selling them to tourists as the "Reno experience".[2] It took Myron and the discovery of Jet for the Mordinos to become the most powerful family in New Reno. Supplying whores, slaves, and other luxuries to Myron, Big Jesus ensured the boy genius' loyalty and success of his brand.

However, success comes at a cost. Big Jesus has developed a heart condition that causes him no end of cardiopulmonary trouble in the hot, arid climate of New California.[3]

Interactions with the player character[]

This character buys slaves.

The player can double the price with a successful Barter check.

Quests[]

Other interactions[]

  • Using Jet, Psycho, Buffout, or Nuka-Cola on Big Jesus will cause him to have a heart attack. Killing him that way is worth 1000 experience points and somehow doesn't earn the ire of other Mordinos.
  • If the player has Myron in their party, Big Jesus will attack when spoken to.

Behind the scenes[]

  • Big Jesus Mordino is likely a reference to Big Enus Burdett of the Smokey and the Bandit films. He, and his son, Lil' Enus Burdett, are rich and frequently make illegal bets and competitions.
  • An unused proto of Big Jesus exists in the game files. It uses the default leather jacket male sprite and has marginally higher SPECIAL stats, but is inferior in terms of skills and derived stats.

Appearances[]

Big Jesus Mordino appears only in Fallout 2.
