The battle rifle is a gas-operated, semi-automatic, clip-fed rifle chambered for the .308 round. In terms of operation, it is a relic of 20th century engineering, utilizing an "en bloc" clip system that allows ammunition to be inserted from above, clip included, into the fixed internal magazine. When all eight rounds are expended, the clip is ejected with a very distinct metallic "ping". Despite the archaic loading method, the combination of powerful rounds and semi-automatic fire makes it a viable choice for a post-nuclear combatant.
Due to its respectable power and acceptable rate of fire (definitely faster than bolt and lever action rifles), the battle rifle is best used for medium to long range attacks. However it also has a relatively high spread compared to other non-automatic rifles, making accurate long range shots difficult if not impossible.
This Machine, a unique and more powerful variant of the battle rifle.
If the player were to shoot the battle rifle in real-life circumstances the way they do in-game, holding their left hand on the bolt carrier, it would result in a quite painful pinch as the bolt carrier cycles the next round.
The battle rifle is slightly darker in color than This Machine.
