Bar Harbor was a town on Mount Desert Island in Hancock County, Maine.
Background[]
Once a popular tourist destination in the Down East region of Maine within its borders are still small segments of human habitation. Its ruin is home to the largest parts of Acadia National Park, including Cadillac Mountain, the highest point within twenty-five miles of the coastline of the Eastern United States. Prior to a catastrophic 1947 fire the town was a famous summer colony for the elite, it became a vital part of Acadia National Park in the years since. The Great War took its toll on the town, as did the salvagers and repeated returns of the fog and its creatures. The situation was not helped by the fact that the Bar Harbor bridge connecting the island to the mainland collapsed due to a lack of maintenance. The town's boardwalk houses the last remaining town on the island, Far Harbor.[1]
Layout[]
Many a landslide has blanketed this rural town with many of its sprawling locals becoming partially buried. Time however has been the ruins worst devastator. Most of the major roads are still passable and many locals are still accessible.
