If you fail to pick a lock, you can punch or kick the object and add a bonus to the pass/fail check. However, this automatically opens the object if the check is successful, and may be noisy enough to alert nearby enemies. In Van Buren, this check was 5 times your Lockpick, out of 1000. In J.E. Sawyer's Fallout Role-Playing Game, this was the results of a 10-sided die times 5, plus your Security skill, out of 100.
Behind the scenes[]
This is a reference to Fonzie from the sitcom Happy Days, a character who would regularly forcefully hit the Jukebox in his local diner when it wasn't working and it would suddenly be in working order again. "Ayyyyyy!" was his catchphrase.
