Automatron was released simultaneously for the Xbox One and PC on March 22, 2016. Its release for the PlayStation 4 was delayed for a short period, after it was discovered that the season pass was being sold for a discounted price. In accordance, Sony delayed the add-on's release, in order to revoke these illegitimately received season passes.
Overview[]
In Automatron, the Sole Survivor happens up on a caravan distress frequency and finds the caravan slaughtered by robots, which are hailing the "Mechanist" as the savior of the Commonwealth. Ironically, through a fault in their programming, the Mechanist's robots have found that killing the denizens of the wasteland are the best way to save them, still fulfilling the Mechanist as their savior. To this end, the Sole Survivor must enlist the help of Ada, a robot and the only survivor with the slaughtered caravan, to track down the Mechanist and bring an end to their reign of terror.
The add-on also adds a new aspect to the crafting system with the robot workbench, which allows the Sole Survivor to mix and match different parts and forge new robotic creations. These creations can accompany the Sole Survivor on their mission to track down the Mechanist, and/or make their own personal robotic army to protect settlements, if they so choose.
