.45 Auto is a type of ammunition in the Honest Hearts.
Characteristics[]
The .45 Auto is an effective pistol cartridge for use against soft, unarmored targets. It combines accuracy and good stopping power, with low visibility and moderate recoil. It has earned itself an almost legendary reputation as a man-stopper, ever since its first introduction in the early 20th century. Among the Mormons of New Canaan, it was the ammunition of their signature weapon, the .45 Auto pistol.
.45 Auto ammunition will be imported by Mojave traders (Gun Runners, Cliff Briscoe, Mick & Ralph's etc.) after the player completes Honest Hearts.

.45 Auto rounds are the only conventional ammunition that is broken down losslessly, i.e. every round produces the exact amount of components needed to remake it. Only miniature rockets break down similarly.
Variants[]
.45 Auto, +P[]
Overpressure .45 Auto ammunition has larger powder loads, allowing it to perform better against a variety of targets. As the round is fired at a higher velocity, it has better stopping power and negotiates enemy protection well. Available from vendors, it can also be crafted by a talented gunsmith with patience and skill. They tend to put more stress on the weapon and wear it down faster than regular rounds.

.45 Auto, hollow point[]
Federal Cartridge hollow point bullets feature a hollowed out shape at the tip of the bullet, causing the bullet to expand upon impact, delivering more kinetic energy to the target and disrupting tissue more extensively. However, this same property also leads to reduced penetrative power, as the bullet will be stopped by armor much more easily due to its properties.
.45 Super (hand load)[]
Talented hand loaders can load .45 Auto rounds like the pre-War Southern Cartridge did. The Wildcat .45 Super has very large powder loads, close to proof rounds, and skirts the edge of safety when it comes to the stress it puts on the weapon. However, these rounds are excellent in combat, offering 20% higher damage and armor penetration than regular rounds.

Rounds crafted with the use of scrap metal, these offer lower ballistic performance and significantly stress the firearm, but are better than nothing.
